Our brand new chandelier, DIY style!

I'm beyond ecstatic that our living/dining space is beginning to shape up. It is now officially un-embarrassing!  From the striped wall, to the yellow entry, now we have a chandelier? Common, I deserve some thumbs up people! :)

You can see in our moodboard that I have a capiz chandelier as an inspiration. Of course I included that
'cos I already had this with me....

A capiz screen. I bought it while shopping at Dapitan Arcade (a great source of cheap home decor here in Manila) for a mere P300 (around $7). I already knew what to do with it the moment I saw it hanging.

The question is what do I use as base to hang those?

Old fan. Umm hello? It's perfect! There's all those wires and space perfect to hang each individual strand, and that thing in the middle can be removed perfect for bulb placement. --Yes, I typed perfect 3 times!

So hang the strands I did. It took me 9 episodes of Friends to finish this whole thing! Talk about multitasking! (By the way, I LOVE that show. I can watch it for the millionth time and still LOL)

My Dad took care of the stuff that I'm in no shape or form to tackle: wiring and electricity. Thank you Pa! Oh, and my brother helped too, just in case he reads this! I don't want to hear any complaints about credits! :D

Here's our brand spankin' new chandelier, DIY style!
Oh how I love the shadows it casts! Another reason why that old fan is perfect. (4 times!)

I feel the need to add more capiz strands on those little gaps, but I ran out! For now, I'm okay with it. Til my next shopping trip to DA.

FUN TRIVIA: Did you know that capiz came from the Capiz province here in the Philippines? I just found out while googling for design inspirations. How could I not know this? Shameful.

P.S. Other DIY chanderlier inspirations here.

This looks outrageously gorgeous. These capiz chandeliers are soooo expensive.

Rebecca - you can do it! It's not that hard, and it's all worth it.. :)

Carmie - I know right? It's sooo much cheaper to DIY, plus it's much more fulfilling! Thanks.
