Love it or Hate it: Concrete Floors

While dreaming about my future home, a place that is only real in my mind, I thought about doing concrete flooring. Not because it's the most amazing choice, but I'm dreaming about a house I can afford to build. Yes, I want to build a house! I can just imagine all the custom stuff I can put in there instead of  updating a cookie cutter townhouse that is insanely expensive. I want a place that is really cost efficient.
No tile/wood flooring = lesssss cost!

I'm not into the really pristine look, so I won't mind the imperfections a concrete floor might bring. Just worried about the "coldness" of this choice, but you can cozy up the space in other ways. To be honest,  I'm loving this. Whenever I went to showrooms with concrete floors, I'm falling even more in love with it. Haha...

You know my stand, what's yours?

Love it or Hate it?

With its neutral color, it will pair up well with many hues. Add some wood elements to warm up the space a bit.

When you think of concrete floors, your mind goes directly to industrial design.  But you may take it in another direction. Using traditional and feminine decor and furniture will transcend the industrial and make it glamorous.

Lots of white and punches of colors looks great with these floors too.

Or take its macho character and go with it. Some industrial finishes and sleek vintage wood furniture would be great for a bachelor's pad.

Another thing that I like about it is I think it's so low maintenance. It's used in home depots and garages for a reason right?

Concrete + black + wood + tons of white = lovely

And for those who love it that much, take it up the wall.

I think I'm sold on going this route if ever some miracle money comes my way and I can finally build a house. But if the miracle is so miraculous that I won some sort of millions in lottery, I'm pretty sure I'll be installing wood. :)

So, love it or hate it?

Styling for Crossings Home

I can finally share the details and sets for this shoot we did a while back. :) We did 5 layouts using their extensive range of furniture and decor. It was fun decorating with a lot of pretty options within arms reach. Feeling ko nag lalaro lng ako promise. I have all my "toys" (as in books, jars, decorative pieces, etc etc!) around and piecing them together to create a set. That is my kind of game. :)

These are behind the scenes and the published catalogue.

Changes & Projects' Progress Snapshots

Oh hello... So the changes I was referring to are my twitter handler, instagram name, and email address.
From switcheroom, they are now elleuydecor

I have been thinking about this for a long time, and I finally did it. I had a few people misspell switcheroom a couple of times before, and its really hard to say my email address over the phone..

Me: "switcheroom@gmail.com"
Other line: "come again?"
Me: "SWITCHEROOM@GMAIL.COM"
Other line: "switch....? room?"
Me: "S-W-I-T-C-H-E-R-O-O-M"
Other line: "slower please"

Me: "elleuydecor!!!"

Hahahaha.... that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it really does happen.

And since we're in the story of confused phone conversations, I have another one.

Other line: "Can I get your name please?"
Me: "Elle Uy"
Other line: "ELOY?"

Eloy????? k fine bye. Haha...

Anyways, I will still be checking my old email add, but will be corresponding via the new one. If you've got inquiries, hit me up. elleuydecor@gmail.com

follow me: http://twitter.com/ElleUyDecor

:)

Since that's out of the way, here are a few snapshots from my current projects. These are actually instagram photos, so if you follow me there, these will be all too familiar.

MORE THAN A STARTER HOME

Here are the frames we hang at their living room.

The custom-made yummy tufted yellow sofa. Envious.

Powder room wallpaper and mirror

TOWNHOME CHARM

Here's the walk-in closet wallpaper. Shimmering. :)

A very affordable glamourous chandelier for the walk-in.

Living room lighting and sheer white curtains.

Custom tufted sofa and orange throw pillows. Love the patterns.

Bedroom light and the black & white stripe curtains. Very dramatic.

This is from a yet to be posted project. But I just wanted to share this bar table I designed for this house.  The left door opens to a mini-fridge. Wine rack underneath, and that tray in the model can pull-out like drawer for easy access. :) I so love it.

HO of the Day: Animalistic

Those walls are crazy and I'm digging it.  All the simple lines of the furniture and solid black elements toned down the craziness and gave this room a very glam vibe.

Black + gold + stripe + animal print =

This.

Townhome Charm: New Project / Moodboards

Another project I've been working on is an update on this old but very cozy townhouse. I'm working on the master bedroom, walk-in closet, teen girl's room, and the living/dining space.

I love this project cause it clearly shows how a few coats of paint and decor updates can totally change the look of your home. But that is for another post. For now, here are the before photos and the plans for the space.

Teen Girl's Room
We have a blank canvas for this room. All white waiting to be transformed.

MOODBOARD
The plan is to have a creative space for this teen. She doesn't want a typical pink girly girl room, but wanted it in hues of blue. So I went ombre with the walls. Simple white furniture, with black and yellow accents.

Master Bedroom
This space has been neglected and its about time for an overhaul. The basic needs are there: bed, seating area, tv (for me TV is a basic need! haha) but style wasn't, except for that cute little chandelier.

MOODBOARD
The client loves the crisp look of black and white so that's where we're going with the bedroom. Grey walls, black doors, trims & accents, with some colorful artwork. She wanted it to be as gender neutral as possible with a bit of softness here and there.interior moodboard, room mood board, black and white room, grey gray walls, traditional room

LIVING/DINING
This is actually a really nice space. It's cozy, it has nice drop lights, but the client wanted to make it lighter since all the furniture is too dark.

MOODBOARD
Light, breezy, airy, and fun is the look we're going for. The only furniture we're getting is the sofa. We'll be repainting the buffet and dining table. A simple nice wallpaper to set the mood.
interior moodboard, room mood board, airy light fun living dining room, neutral walls, teal sofa

On the other side, we're building a whole wall of built-in shelves which is one my favorite feature. It was an unused space before and they had tons of books and decors which would look amazing in that new shelves. Teal stair rails and main door. Eeeehhhh... excited! Anything teal makes me excited. Haha...

No moodboard for the walk-in closet but it is something special. Just wait and see. :)

P.S. At this very moment, I still have no idea what to call this project. So I'll sit here, watch Wedding Crashers on HBO, and post this when a project name comes to mind. Please come soon.

P.P.S. Movie's done. Still nada.

P.P.P.S. After more than an hour of watching and cleaning, came up with "Townhome Charm." Simple but very much describe this house and the community where this house sits.  Goodnight!

More than a Starter Home: Progress story

Just got back from a site visit here and its coming along well. Most of the furniture were in, frames and mirrors were hung, just some more cleaning and decorating, and I'll be soon showing the big reveal. :)

But before that, here is the progress that went on...

BEFORE
MID-PROJECT
Moved the door to the middle for better flow. Not yet the final color since we changed it to a more subdued hue.

BEFORE
ALMOST DONE
Now this is the color we ended up with. The stair rails, balusters, and steps were stripped to bare wood to give a very rustic / coastal charm. We wanted a beachy, fun, and glam look. :)

BEFORE
Now this is where the most dramatic change occurred, the kitchen. As you can see, that is the only allotted space for the kitchen, if you can even consider it that. There's no space for a fridge, not even a stove!
MID-PROJECT
The dead space on the right which was an unused "outdoor" area was converted to be part of the kitchen. We built an island to create a bit of a separation, and to add a much needed work / storage space.
ALMOST DONE
Here's the island that worked as extra dining space for guest. For a small space, you got to maximized and make every inch functional.  From a non-working kitchen, to a very functional and spacious space to make food and entertain.

BEFORE
This was the master bath.. nothing so mastery about it. Very old marble walls, non-working aluminum sliding doors...
MID-PROJECT
We tore everything apart. Put up new tiles, fixtures, etc. Love the bathroom now, can't wait to show you!

BEFORE
Master bedroom
MID-PROJECT
Painted the walls a calm taupe shade. A silky black-out curtains will be installed tomorrow. A tufted bed, photo art, custom desk, mirror, will come in and this will truly be a master bedroom.

I've got more to show you, one my fave is the powder room. Just don't have the photos now, but it also got a 360 turn around.

Oh and the yellow tufted sofa goodness is here...

Imagine this...
In yellow, with gold studs! Yummy....
